Darren Lee Holmes (born April 25, 1966) is an American former professional baseball pitcher and current coach. Holmes pitched in Major League Baseball from 1990 to 2003 and is currently the bullpen coach for the Baltimore Orioles. Professional career Early years Holmes was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina, and attended T.C. Roberson High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. He was selected in the 16th round of the 1984 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and opted to turn professional and forgo his scholarship at UNC. Los Angeles Dodgers Holmes went 0–1 in 14 games in 1990, his first action in the Major Leagues. On December 20, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for Bert Heffernan. Darren Holmes (born 3 September 1970) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with the Sydney Swans and Fitzroy in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the 1990s. A utility, Holmes had his most productive year in 1992 when he made 19 appearances and after two more seasons was traded to Fitzroy. He was a member of the last Fitzroy squad, playing seven games in the 1996 AFL season. Holmes had the misfortune of playing in five consecutive wooden spoon sides, with Sydney from 1992 to 1994 and then at Fitzroy in the next two seasons. Overall, of the 63 career games he played, he was on the victorious side just ten times.
